Why Hasn't the Singularity Happened Yet?

There is a big whopping flaw at the heart of Transhumanism. If an intelligent technology-creating species is the inevitable product of evolution and given the abundance of organic molecules (on comets for instance) in the universe, why hasn't the Singularity happened yet somewhere in the universe?

According to Moravec, it already has and we are living in the post-Singularity universe.

According to Kurzweil, it hasn't happened yet because we are in the lead. This is ludicrous given the lateness of our planet - forming fully 10 billion years after the first planets formed.

There is another possibility that the Transhumanists don't consider: the Singularity doesn't happen anywhere ever in the universe. This, of course, is the obvious answer but Transhumanists can't consider it because it would require them to question their religious beliefs. Admitting that our species isn't special and that we will all die is simply unbearable. Transhumanism works like Prozac.
