Dennett on AI

Daniel Dennett is one of my heroes.  He is one of the few philosophers who take science seriously.  His twin classics, Consciousness Explained and Darwin's Dangerous Ideas, have dramatically changed my outlook on the world and the meaning of life.

Dennett is also the favorite philosopher of the AI community, so his opinion on AI matters.
Here is a video where Dennett says that he doesn't think AI will happen anytime in the foreseeable future.  Dennett is too smart to believe that AI is inevitable and recognizes the enormous complexity of biological systems.  Another factor might be that Dennett's career doesn't depend on getting funding from DARPA which means he can be honest and doesn't have to be constantly hyping up his ideas.
