Is IT finally becoming a commodity?

All Transhumanism rest on the belief that information technology (IT) will keep improving at exponential rates.  However, this can't happen as the increasing costs for improvements will eventually outpace what the market can bear and IT will then become a commodity, like electricity or silverware; something that doesn't change much year after year. 

Here is an
article in the NYTimes about Sandisk chairman Eli Harari, "Counting Down to the End of Moore’s Law," where he says in 7 years it will end.  He says that the future is 3D stacking.

The question is, will vertical integration generate the same performance gains that traditional scaling has.  We'll see...
